RICHARD CASE

VIGNERON AND WINEMAKER

SARAH CASE

CO-FOUNDER

Richard and Sarah Case’s story began with a shared love of wine and adventure. Richard’s passion took root in his early twenties when a bottle of Amarone led him to wine school and the London trade, where he discovered his true calling was to make wine, not sell it.

Together with his wife Sarah – a journalist and photographer – they left London to travel, working harvests across New Zealand, Europe, and South America. The journey deepened their connection to wine and ultimately led them to Maury, where everything changed.

“We came upon Maury at the end of 2002 – not looking for it yet knowing at once we had found something rare. The land was wild and unforgiving: searing summer heat, sudden storms and a restless wind called the Tramontane. Amid it all stood twisted Grenache vines rooted deep in black schist. From the moment we saw them, we knew we had to stay.

We began with two hectares – modest, though it didn’t feel it back then. The slopes were too steep for machines, the soil too wild to be tamed, and each harvest a quiet test of faith. But what the land withheld in ease, it repaid in essence: intensely flavoured fruit, expressive and true to its terroir.

Today, Pertuisane is more than our vineyards. It’s our home, our passion, and our commitment to carry forward the story of this land. We’re proud to share wines that embody not only the resilience of the vines, but also the beauty and spirit that first drew us here.”
